The best French-language popstar at the moment has to be Najoua Belyzel, particularly for her amazingly ace single Gabriel. It's the kind of dreamy electro-pop that Mylene Farmer would be proud of, and it's catchy even if you don't know what the words mean. Who cares about meanings when you can dance? She's also released a second single (Je ferme les yeux) and an album (Entre deux mondes) which are quite good, and I'd certainly recommend them if you're a fan of French pop, although a whole CD of her may be a bit much for a newcomer to their style. However, if you think the French are incapable of anything better than the rubbish they sent to Eurovision this year, you need to hear this and be corrected! Jessica

"Je Ferme Les Yeux" is fantastic! I listened to all of the samples and really want this album. Thanks so much!

Hurrah! A Najoua convert! Doesn't she have the best name ever as well?

The album grows on me every time i listen to it.
Apart from the two singles, Stella's probably my favourite.

I too have listened to the samples and really want the album! I'm planning on buying it when I go to Paris next week.

'Gabriel' has been on my "current favourites" playlist on my iPod ever since it was posted on Club Contact. It's really, really good!
If the album is good too, she must be one of the hottest newcomers of 2006! (Because she is a newcomer, right?)
