After what seemed like an eternity, Diskoteka Avariya have released another proper album - Chetvero Parnei - and it's really quite fantastic.
Although clearly an acquired taste, they're almost certainly the biggest pop group in Russia at the moment. It's obviously not because of their youth, looks or fashion sense so we'll have to put it down to music which can probably be best described as a cross between Junior Senior and the Beatie Boys.
I find their big, stupid mix of "hip-hop, house and rock 'n' roll" absolutely irresistable. The new album features Malinki, a collaboration with the terrific Zhanna Friske (of the Night Watch / Day Watch films) as well as three enormous singles in the awesome Opa, Stradaniya and Pesenka Razboinikov. Like most Russian albums, it goes a bit wonky towards the end, but i'll forgive them.
I'll have to post a couple of them on the Contact page again. I believe i put up an early version of Stradaniya called Nu I Ladno a while ago.
Davai! Davai! Davai!

Are they doing a football song? The one that plays on their website sounds like it should be. They're brilliantly mad looking, look: They seem to have a wide ranging dressing up box... Their website is highly confusing but I love them already for their crazy style and jolly tunes! Jessica

For some reason, the song that plays over the top of their website is Nebo which came out about three years ago. They seem to start a new site for every single and use the main one primarily for posting half-naked pictures of their fans in a yearly Miss Avariya contest. If anyone's interested, here's the new version of Nu I Ladno, with Oleg Menshikov: www.box.net/public/static/zk146tomn3.mp3
