I'm off on holiday to Portugal next week, and I always like to pick up some local music when I'm abroad.
It's not a nation particularly renowned for its great pop (hence the distinctly underwhelming Eurovision record) but I'm sure there must be something out there. The Poptimists Pop World Cup have introduced me to the delights of Ovo, but that and Nelly Furtado aside I know of little else.
Recommendations anyone?

I don't think I've ever heard a good song from Portugal, unless there's a band out there who are secretly Portuguese but ashamed to say so for fear of comparison to their Eurovision entries!

The Gift may be on tour during your visit. They have an AMAZING single from a few years ago, 11.33, and several other good ones on their "AM-FM" album. I've read that they're better live than on record and really wish I had known about them during their US tour. Another Portuguese act who's had some success in the US is Gomo, whose music is more in the twee-pop vein. His videos are wonderful (look on the Gomo Myspace page for one).

ooo they look good, but unfortunately I'll miss them while I'm there. I may have to purchase AM:FM though while I'm in Lisbon.
Thanks!
