Norway gets a separate forum but Italy does not. OK, I'll second Jessica's vote of confidence in Norwegian music by starting a thread.I've heard a quite a few tunes from Maria Mena and have decided that I like both her and her music. Sony tried to launch her in the US two years ago. Of course, that didn't work. Her music is far to refined and melodic to appeal to people brought up on unrelieved diets of grunge and gangsta rap. But Europeans ought to take notice of this young lady. website: mariamenamusic.no/

I remember her first single over here "You're The Only One". I actually heard about it from friends at school instead of the internet (where I hear most music first). After listening to the clips on her website, I don't understand why she doesn't have a US following; her music is certainly likable enough.

I really liked You're The Only One but the songs off her new album have disappointed me a bit. Are there any I should listen out for?

Yes, the latest album "Apparently Unaffected" is perhaps a little more folksy a little less pop than the previous work. Slower and more introspective. A good listen, but not a collection of pop classics. Some of her best songs are to be found on the internationally released "White turne blue" album. "Just a little bit" and "Blame it on me" both stayed on my playlists for a long time. YouTube: Just a little bit

Yes, I really liked Just A Little Bit as well. I actually posted it on Into The Groove some time last year.

Top of the Pops is dead! Well, in the UK it is. But out there in the real world the overseas franchises continue to rock on. In Holland, Maria has a Top 40 hit with "Just Hold Me" and she duly sang it on last week's Dutch TOTP: Watching this made me think. Just how difficult would it be for the BBC to scan through the overseas editions of TOTP, select the better performances and re-package them for a UK audience on one of their digital channels? It would at least create some sort of alternative to endless wall to wall american product.
