I'm not familiar with her Japanese stuff, but her English-language album Exodus is one of my favourite pop albums EVER. It sounds like nothing else around and is completely impossible to categorise, yet it's totally accessible. And she did it all herself - apart from the three Timbaland tracks (Exodus 04, Wonder 'Bout and Let Me Give You My Love) - on her laptop.
The influence of Bjork is pretty obvious in places, vocally and musically - Animato's glacial beats would have fitted nicely on Homogenic, while Devil Inside is like I Miss You for the 21st century. Unfortunately, her UK launch was pretty half-hearted and the choice of You Make Me Want To Be A Man - hardly the most radio-friendly track - as the first single didn't help matters, while the US release hardly made a dent.
You all need to hear this, if you haven't already.

Exodus is indeed marvellous. From what I've heard, her new Japanese-language album is good, but not quite the same in quality.

Yes, I agree, thanks for getting the ball rolling. 'Exodus' is fab, I think The Devil Inside' is nothing short of pure genius. The Work Out' worries me, it's as brilliant as it is rubbish, I'm undecided as to whether it is tragic or amazing. I love the Japanese stuff as well, 'Travelling' and 'Automatic' being particular favourites.
It's same really that Utada is American (born and raised in New York), and therefore not 'proper' Japanese.

The Work Out is definitely amazing and not even slightly tragic! It's my fave Utada song. I haven't listened to her for a while (obviously time for a reunion) but I remember loving All About Me, Easy Breezy and The Devil Inside.

Hikki's "Flavour of Life" single is scheduled for physical release on 28th February. The song is being used as the theme tune to series 2 of TV drama "Hana yori Dango" and a ringtone version of the track was made available for download on 5th January to coincide with the broadcast of the first episode. Barks are now reporting 100,000 downloads in the first 5 days and on no better evidence than this, are rashly predicting that the song will be a 'hit'.
